Frequently asked questions
Do small companies need a full marketing service?
This is a good question. Marketing managers and the full range of marketing activities can be a bit overwhelming for small businesses sometimes. It can seem like a lot of work – but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth doing. The only way to grow is to get your product out there and in front of potential customers consistently. People need to know about you, and the earlier you start marketing the sooner you will see results.
How much does a marketing manager cost in construction?
That will depend on the scope of the job required, but in general you should see it as an investment rather than a cost. Especially if you hire a freelance marketing manager for your construction or property business. If you do that, you’re not paying NI, pension, holidays or anything else like that. You get the benefits of an in-house employee without the additional cost.
What extra costs should I expect when I start doing marketing?
Marketing is a wide area and there are likely to be extra costs at times. It depends on what you want to do, but you should expect to need a graphic designer and some sort of SEO professional at a minimum. Then, depending on how far along the marketing road you are, you could need a new website, videographers, paid social experts or others. It can seem daunting, but the costs are small in the long-term and the potential benefits are massive.
Construction is all about word of mouth, why do I need a marketing team?
It’s true that business has been done for years by word of mouth in construction. However, I guarantee that you’re missing out on business by not investing in marketing. If your business goals require new jobs and customers, you need to do marketing. Word of mouth has a shelf life, and you will want your marketing up and running before word of mouth starts failing you.
I can do some bits like social media myself, do I still need marketing help?
If you’ve got a strong social presence already that drives new business then that is a fantastic start – but it’s only a start. There’s more to marketing than posting on LinkedIn, and if that’s all you’re doing then you are limiting your potential customers and how far you can take the business. It all depends on your goals, but if you want to become a large company you need to do more than post pictures from site.
Do I need marketing help if my product isn’t perfect yet?
That depends on how far away you are from completing development, testing etc. If you’re 12-18 months away from having a marketable product, you need to start thinking about marketing now. If you’re years away, it’s probably one to bear in mind but come back to later. Feel free to get in touch and discuss if you’re not sure!
